Setsebi Productions is all about the creation and implementation of sustainable skill development programming.
Setsebi Productions has been continuously involved and on many occasions, pioneering the creation of DIY television edutainment programming, corporate, marketing and training DVD’s in all 11 official South African languages on request. It has also been involved with a vast array of social responsibility programs and the general upliftment and development of our nation’s most valuable resource – our people.
The content of our programs aim to represent and speak with multiple target audiences in such a way that is memorable, enjoyable and educating in an easy to follow format.
Our talented team consists of specialists in various fields within the DIY and TV production fields. We at Setsebi Productions commit ourselves to producing a well-researched quality product that exceeds expectation.

“Setsebi” is as traditional Sesotho word meaning ‘the one who knows’ or the expert and that is what our handymen and women from Setsebi are trying to accomplish. We aim to be a vehicle that delivers wisdom and practical life skills to our loyal audience
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Our role as a production company focuses on DIY projects, crafts and skill development, enabling us to be a part of the renovation and building of our country and its people! It all begins with a solid foundation! Starting at grassroots level – Setsebi sets out to empower and teach people how to build for themselves, providing a skill for possible job creation and to also provide the tools to improve their lifestyle which creates a spiral effect on their family’s future.
Building this country brick by brick, Riaan and Max are brothers in arms in the DIY game.

Portia Khumalo : Profile
Portia Khumalo is the behind the scenes Editor for Setsebi Productions. At the moment she is working on perfectly editing Bush Radar, Wild Limited and DIY met Riaan. She is better known behind the scenes as the friendly right hand of Riaan Venter.
Portia, with her natural good humour has shown that through hard work, you can achieve your dreams and because of that, Portia produces work that is truly proudly South African!
She is a proud Zulu mother, originally from Johannesburg. She started her working career in the cleaning department at Tag Post Productions before moving into the more professional production industry, Ezinkulu Productions in Johannesburg.
Riaan and Portia’s alliance started when she came to work for Ezinkulu Productions in Johannesburg. A friendship was built on mutual respect and earnest hard work and before long Portia started working her way up in the company since she believed that there is more ahead and she wanted to get a better understanding of the industry.
Dedicated to the task at hand and fuelled by dreams, they are currently on the brink of becoming a multi-faceted, established production entity within the broadcasting industry.
Riaan Garforth-Venter Biography
Celebrated DIY Guru, TV personality and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Champion Riaan Garforth-Venter, better known as ‘Die Nutsman’ is synonymous with creative ideas, DIY, eco-tips, conservation and beautiful homes.
Riaan’s absolute love and positive outlook on life were apparent in the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ competition on SABC TV. Riaan lost 25 kilograms in record time during his preparation for the show. ‘Die Nutsman’, as he is better known as, and his dance partner – the beautiful Hayley Hammond - were crowned the winners of the 1st competition in 2007, definitely a highlight for Riaan.
Aside from his highly successful TV show ‘DIY met Riaan’ gaining increasing popularity in its 5 season, 2010 was a pioneering year for Riaan, his wife Michelle and South African television with the launch of a first ever South African produced 30 part half hour television reality series of this kind called ‘Love & Mortar’ on the DSTV Home Channel (#182) - a show that invited audiences into their lives as they built their ultimate bio-climatic family home and educated one and all on eco-friendly cost saving initiatives
In 2011, leading on from this pioneering South African production is Greenline, an exciting 26 part television series featuring South Africa’s leading eco-journalists and producers, Riaan and Michelle Garforth-Venter. It premiered on Sunday 20 February 2011, on SABC 3 at 16.30. In the show these eco-warriors share the latest information available on the market about green consumerism purposely for South Africans and South African homes.
Riaan heads up the ‘Do-It-Green’ team, which is part of the Greenline format and shows viewers step-by-step on how to ‘Do-It-Green’ (as opposed to Do-It-Yourself) projects such as recycling and how to re-use in and around the home making it safer for the whole family.
In Riaan’s ongoing, successful TV series ‘DIY met Riaan’, now in its 6th season, his handy hints and tips can help you renovate your home from the inside out with wonderful ideas for gardens, gifts, nurseries and other easy projects to enhance the look and feel of your home. The whole idea behind ‘Do It Yourself’ and ‘Do It Green’ is to save money as well as to be aware of the environment.
Riaan helps to make the impossible possible. Riaan’s easy tips and unbelievable knowledge of products and how to use them effectively is absolutely a winner. More than 1 million viewers tune in weekly to watch his show on how they can learn from his experience.
His latest book, co-written with wife Michelle hit South African bookstores in May 2011. He also conducts ‘green’ workshops countrywide to encourage and teach large corporations and the public to take to the challenge and start making the changes necessary to play their part in the fight against global climate change.
Riaan is also known for his work with his wife, Michelle in their conservation and green efforts, both with animals and environmental issues. Riaan and Michelle both believe it’s not about preaching it, but about living it!
